The minimalistic designs of villas boast a contemporary elegance that exemplified its sophistication. The Plaza Hotel has appeared in a well-known film “Home alone 2”. The viewers had a chance to see the hotel not only from the outside, but from the inside as well.
It broke the short-lived record set one week earlier by Bram Stoker's Dracula for having the largest November opening weekend. The film went on to hold this record until 1994 when it was taken by Interview with the Vampire. Additionally, it achieved the highest opening weekend for a Chris Columbus film and would hold that record until it was surpassed by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It started off better than Home Alone, grossing $100 million in 24 days compared to 33 days for the original.
Sequels
However, many of the interior shots of the house, particularly the basement and the attic were recreated on set in the New Trier High School. Other filming locations in Winnetka include a Panera Bread Company establishment at 940 Greenbay Road, as well as the Hubbard Woods Metro Station in Gage Street. That's not to say you couldn't visit NYC and be amazed inside a mega toy store. Formerly on Fifth Avenue, the store provided the setting for the famous Tom Hanks piano scene in the movie Big. Deciding to explore the city, one of Kevin’s first stops is Radio City Music Hall, where he takes pictures of this famous music venue with his Polaroid camera. Radio City Music Hall is easily one of the most legendary Home Alone 2 filming locations in NYC where Kevin is running around sightseeing.

The money is delivered to the hospital as intended, and Mr. Duncan finds out Kevin was responsible. Kevin's uncle Rob and aunt Georgette have a townhouse on 95th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. He finds the address in his dad's contacts, which were in the backpack, but after seeking refuge there earlier, realizes that no one is home and the house is undergoing a gut renovation.
SCENE
When Insider's Jason Guerrasio interviewed director Chris Columbus in 2020, he said Trump bullied his way into the cameo in the first place. Culkin seems to approve of removing a contentious celebrity cameo from the movie. The Plaza is one of the main settings of the film as Kevin decides to stay there after accidentally going to New York by himself. It was created specifically as a prop for the film by Tiger Electronics, but according to Vanity Fair, the company was allowed to sell a real version once it came out. Rochelle’s later appeared in the scene in which Kate McCallister (Catherine O-Hara) received a phone call from the Miami Police informing her that Kevin had tried to check in to The Plaza Hotel in New York .

You get the sense, again, that this is a smart-yet-naive Midwestern kid having a fun day out but at the same time getting a little bit awed by the big city even from so many stories up. At the airport, Kevin looks out at Long Island City's Pepsi-Cola sign and the East River skyline, and the screen flashes to and from various cityscape shots. We get a sense of the enormity of the place and the tiny-ness of this child. At first, Kevin says nervously, "Oh no, my family's in Florida and I'm in New York." Then he smiles.
Times Square
It's located at West 120th Street out in Harlem, which is about 75 blocks from Carnegie Hall. Completed back in 1888, the Rookery was designated a National Historic Landmark back in 1975. What viewers see in the movie is the beautiful arched entrance, which of course remains just as it was back in 1992. Kevin finds the store of his dreams in Duncan's Toy Chest, a building that isn't actually found in New York. Those well-versed in historic buildings may recognize this as the Rookery Building, a historic landmark in Chicago.
National Register of Historic Places, so it doesn't look that different from the 1992 setting of the movie. The movie was released just nine years prior to the tragic attacks that took these buildings down. The site is now home to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, complete with the beautiful and wonderfully thoughtful memorial, Reflecting Absence.
Queensboro Bridge
It’s at this Home Alone 2 film location where Marv is trying to to skate, while Harry is reading the newspaper. The Stanley Hotel appears in a very popular and funny film “Dumb and dumber”, but the hotel is shown under different name as the Danbury Hotel. If you were wondering where was ‘Home Alone’ filmed, here’s everything we know. Kevin springs by the Van Cleef and Arpels store on Fifth Avenue, and hurriedly stops to buy a few necklaces off a street vendor. Notlostin New York, but independent and having a grand old time. While the film featured the first film's theme song "Somewhere in My Memory", it also contained its own theme entitled "Christmas Star".
Unfortunately, this Home Alone 2 location has since closed down. In this brief scene, we see Kevin leaving from Quong Yuen Shing with firecrackers—which are sure to go off before the film’s conclusion. After once again being confronted by Harry and Marv, Kevin is chased through Central Park and we’re introduced to another one of Home Alone 2’s locations—the Bethesda fountain. You’ll feel like you’re in a movie yourself when skating at this famous rink. In the newspaper, he finds an ad for “Duncan’s Toy Chest” and the two hatch a plan to rob the store on Christmas Eve. This is also where Marv snatches a scarf and earmuffs off fellow skaters.
But even before that, viewers see Kevin walking up some stairs into the complex itself with the two iconic buildings proudly standing in the background. The entire movie was filmed across Chicago and New York, despite the majority of the story being based in NYC. The actual location used for the scenes in the film was in Universal Studios on Brownstone Street! They just used an address here in NYC, that Hollywood trickery. After finally arriving to New York, Kevin’s mom Kate (Played by Catherine O’Hara) goes on a desperate search for her son and catches a cab to Times Square. While it’s one of Home Alone 2’s briefest use of NYC locations, the setting is still a memorable one.
LaGuardia Airport does look different today since the movie was released in 1992. According to Insider, there has been a renovation of Terminal B, which will change the appearance of the airport as well. The movie Home Alone 2 was filmed in the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Columbus claims he was going to cut the scene but test audiences cheered at his appearance. Macaulay Culkin has since endorsed a petition to have Trump's cameo removed from the movie. Though the set looks completely real, unfortunately Duncan's Toy Chest is fake, and it is not a real place in New York or any other city.
